The Promises of Depressed Anonymous

“If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are halfway through. We are going to know a new happiness.  We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word ‘serenity’  and we will know peace.  No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.  That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.  We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.  Self-seeking will slip away.  Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. The fear of people and economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will sudden realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves. Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us- sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, They will always materialize if we work for them.

These promises indeed are true and we know they are true because of the witness of the thousands of addicted persons who are now free from their compulsions because of working the Twelve Steps for any addiction imaginable have found that their compulsion has been defeated and they are recovering their very best selves.”

    • Annette, so pleased that you called. It takes courage sometimes to call or even show up at our first 12 step meeting. I know–been there and done that. I will be thinking of you especially in the coming days. Just follow along here or look at past Blogs. But just as important post your own feedback on what you read here. And know, you are always welcome.

    • Hello Cyril
Hey, thanks for your note about groups in Canada. There once was a group in Toronto as I remember. But there are no groups listed on our Out side USA group menu. Cyril, Have you thought about starting your own Depressed Anonymous group? If you look at our NEWSLETTER archives and Newsletter #4 you can read as the best way to start a group.
If you and others want to start a group please let us know and we will do all that we can in helping you along. We will likewise post your new group on our website.
Hoping to hear from you. And don’t forget about the Home Study Program where an individual can read material and use the Depressed Anonymous Workbook and Basic Text Depressed Anonymous to find answers to one’s own experience with depression. Go to the menu to find out more about this self help program–especially suited for persons without groups in one’s region.
All the best to you and let us know if you need some help.
      Hugh
