Home Study Program

The Depressed Anonymous HOME STUDY PROGRAM is designed to provide you with a step by step plan of action. Used at Depressed Anonymous meetings, the HOME STUDY PROGRAM is now available for those who do not have a DEPRESSED ANONYMOUS GROUP in their community. The power of the HOME STUDY PROGRAM is that you work at your own pace.

Initiate self-directed this self-help program, order the “HOME STUDY KIT” which includes a WORKBOOK and the DEPRESSED ANONYMOUS MANUAL or as some call it, “THE BIG BOOK of DA.” You can also order both these books, THE DEPRESSED ANONYMOUS MANUAL and THE DEPRESSED ANONYMOUS WORKBOOK in an eBOOK format and download or order online from Amazon.com or from Depressed Anonymous Publications. The eBook option is the most cost effective.
THE DA WORKBOOK coordinates with the DEPRESSED ANONYMOUS MANUAL and is filled with questions which are designed to lead you deeper into the reasons/causes that brought you PRESENTLY to this point in your life. The suggested format, whether a Home Study Program or a DA Group Meeting, is too break the Manual and accompanying Workbook into 4 sections, within each of the 12 Steps. Following this format takes approximately one year to complete the 12 steps.

This might seem like a long time, however, as stated on page 157 – 3rd paragraph in the Manual,
“In this natural world, one of the first laws is that all growth is gradual’.

This is a marathon, not a sprint! Your goal should be to evolve into a Depressed Anonymous Weekly Meeting with others that suffer from the pains of depression and want to get better.

PLEASE EMAIL US IF YOU EVOLVE FROM A HOME STUDY PROGRAM TO A DEPRESSED ANONYMOUS GROUP, AS WE WOULD LIKE TO ASSIST AND CELEBRATE YOUR GROWTH!

    • Hi Rebecca
Thanks for the response to the need for us to renew our contract with WordPress. I have been sent the renew form to fill out to help keep us on line by your Dad. I still do not have a clue whether we are wordpress.com or what. They WPO keep telling me that I am not connecting with wp.com. This is not true as we are in contact with wp.com.
Hopefully, you can help walk me through this form. I will do what I can and hopefully it will work.
Also, how do I write an article for the Newsletter. We have Over 300 suscribers–but I need to know what to do to add material to the Newsletter.
      Looking forward to your assistance.

  1. I’ve struggled with depression most of my life. I recently heard about a Depressed Anonymous group in La Crosse, WI, but that’s still over 100 miles away. I’d like to learn more, and would like to start a group in my area. I belong to NAMI, but much of NAMI deals with mental illness other than depression. I do see a therapist on a regular basis, but would love a support group.

    • Hi Terri
Thank you for your post. If you are looking for a Daily Meditation Book, then possibly you are referring to Higher Thoughts for Down Days: 365 daily thoughts and meditations for members of 12 step fellowship groups. This is published by Depressed Anonymous Publications. You can order it by going to Depressed Anonymous website. The Book is available on KINDLE as well.
      Hope this information is helpful.

Would I need to check in with anyone?
Sorry about all my questions, I will look really forward to hearing back from you/someone.

    • Happy New Year! A major resolution of mine for 2019 is to home study the DABB ( Depressed Anonymous Big Book) and its Manual. I also have a book with a fascinating title about ‘doing it when I feel better.’ I have a few cups of coffee in AA, so I will enjoy this home study! And, yes, my goal is to organize a group in about a year, when I finish the studies. I had to state this somewhere official because a day at a time, I am committed to this path. Happy 2019 fellowship members!

    • HI John
Thanks for the request. The Home Study Combo consists of Manual and Workbook and can be ordered online. There is a DA group which meets weekly in the Ft. Worth-Dallas area. For more information about this group please contact Tom at their address: dathecolony@yahoo.com. He will be happy to help you. Also, you might want to go to our website at depressedanon.com to find all the information that you need to start a group. I hope this helps.

  7. What options are there in addition to the home study combo for those who don’t have a group near them? Is there a way to get an online sponsor? What steps do we take while working through the workbook when we have questions?

    • Good morning Dax
Thank you for your interest in our Home Study Program of Recovery.
Yes, we do have an online sponsor possible. I have served persons taking the Home Study for about three years. Presently there is an international group using the Home Study as a Step Study Group program. ALso, there is an International DA group online which is using the Home Study group format.
When there is need of a question to be answered in the Home Study Program–this can be easily accomplished via emails. I have found this to be a ready way to take care of any problems or questions.
The Home Study program uses the email process in which the participant is sending their answers to the Sponsor on a regular basis. The sponsor will then send his own responses to the participant. So it is an online course where there exists an ongoing online presence between Sponsor and participant.
If you would like a sample of what one person achieved via this process please go to Newsletter Archives at our site for Fall 2018 Issue. There you can find Kim’s written experience at this site.
Again, you write and answer the questions as you like. You can also go at your own pace. The process is confidential.
I hope this gives a framework of how the process is maintained over time. There are no fees or dues for this service. I hope this helps. Please send further requests for more information to me at depanon@netpenny.net. My name is Hugh S.
